In the early 1970s, PBT was successfully studied by CelaneseCompany of the United States and listed under the name of Celanex.Then the world-renowned manufacturers BASF, Bayer, GE, Ticona ofthe United States, Toray, Mitsubishi Chemistry of Japan, Taiwan NewPhotosynthetic Fiber, Changchun Artificial Resin, South AsiaPlastics and other companies have been put into production ranks.There are more than 30 global manufacturers. PBT can also be calledthermoplastic polyester plastics. In order to be used by differentprocessors, additives are usually added or mixed with otherplastics. With the different proportion of additives, products ofdifferent specifications can be manufactured. At present, there aremore than 100 specifications in the island, so PBT is a productwith less and more specifications. PBT is widely used inelectronic appliances, automotive parts, machinery and householdproducts because of its heat resistance, weather resistance, drugresistance, good electrical properties, low water absorption andgood gloss. PBT products are also called five general engineeringplastics together with PPE, PC, POM and PA.
market prospect
India's main oil company, IOC, is planning to build asemi-crystalline thermoplastic resin plant for polybutyleneterephthalate (PBT) to meet the growing demand in India and theregion. Once finalized, the PBT plant will be built at PetroIndia's17 million ton/year Panipart Refinery in northern India. Accordingto PetroIndia's forecast, domestic consumption of PBT plastic resinin India will continue to increase, with an estimated currentdemand of 80,000 tons per year, and will expand to 112,000 tons peryear by 2016. India's demand for PBT plastic resins is growingbecause of the rapid growth of demand in the automotive, electricaland consumer electronics industries.
