Elastomer modified polyolefin blends are composed ofsemi-crystalline thermoplastic polyolefins and amorphouselastomers. The main types of blends are homopolymer or copolymerof polypropylene and ethylene-propylene (EP) orethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM) rubber. They can be filled withvarious fillers (such as talc powder, glass, calcium carbonate,mica, etc.), as well as heat, oxidation and ultravioletstabilizers, colors, lubricants and other processing aids. Otherpolymers can be added as compatibilizers or to improve some specialproperties. Most TPOS are mechanical blends prepared on batch orcontinuous mixers. The morphology and physical properties of TPOSproducts are affected by processing conditions. It can be furthermodified during mixing to produce controllable rheological productsor partial crosslinking, but it is still a product of thermoplasticmaterials. In the past few years, reports have been made on thepreparation of PP/PE blends by in-reactor graft copolymerization.Polypropylene and EP copolymers were synthesized in a series ofcontinuous reactors, including PP preparation and rubberpreparation by similar methods, but this is a continuous process.Compared with mechanical blends, the performance of the productshas a small range of changes. However, the blends prepared in thereactor can meet some application requirements, and they are alsovery useful as components of Engineering polyolefins
