PP Chemistry and properties: ISOTACTIC PP homopolymer wassynthesized from propylene catalyzed by Ziegler-Natta CatalystSystem. The Ethylene propylene rubber component is synthesized in aseries of reactors, or purchased in advance, and then blended withPP homopolymer in an extruder. The resulting impact resistantpolypropylene is granulated and sold. The important properties ofimpact-resistant PP copolymer produced on site can be controlled byselecting suitable catalyst composition and reactor conditions. Thecrystallinity of Matrix Resin, the composition and number of rubbercomponents and the total molecular weight distribution aredetermined by catalyst composition and reactor conditions. IMPACTRESISTANT PP is one of the lightest Thermoplastic, with a densityof less than 1 and a price per pound of product lower than PET,PBT, high impact polystyrene and ABS. The specific volume cost ofimpact resistant PP is lower than those of resins and polyvinylchloride. Hdpe is the only HDPE that can compete in this regard.Impact resistant PP is usually processed at moderate temperatures,ranging from 350 to 550 F. Impact resistant polypropylenecopolymers have a broad spectrum of melt flow rates, usuallyranging from less than 1 to about 30. A resin with a melt flowrate, usually made by "visbreaking" a material with a lower meltflow rate. That is, the material from the reactor after a stepreaction to reduce the average molecular weight, thus making ahigher melt flow rate of products. The impact resistantpolypropylene copolymer has high resistance to chemical andenvironmental stress fracture. After treatment, the material canhave excellent cantilever beam impact strength and lower Ghanaianimpact performance. Cantilever beam impact strength ranges from 05to over 15 feet.
