Polypropylene is a thermoplastic resin made by polymerization ofpropylene. According to the methyl arrangement, it can be dividedinto isotactic polypropylene, atactic polypropylene andsyndiotactic polypropylene.
The methyl arranged on the same side of the molecular main chainis called isotactic polypropylene. If the methyl arrangeddisorderly on both sides of the molecular main chain, it is calledatactic polypropylene. If the methyl arranged alternately on bothsides of the molecular main chain, it is called syndiotacticpolypropylene. In the general industrial polypropylene resin, thecontent of isotactic structure is about 95%, and the rest is randomor syndiotactic polypropylene. Industrial products are mainlycomposed of isotactic substances. Polypropylene also includescopolymers of propylene and a small amount of ethylene. It isusually a translucent colorless solid, odorless and nontoxic. Dueto the regular structure and high crystallization, the meltingpoint can be as high as 167 ℃. Heat resistant, corrosion-resistant,products can be steam disinfection is its outstanding advantages.It is the lightest general-purpose plastic with small density. Thedisadvantage is poor low temperature impact resistance and easyaging, but can be overcome by modification.
